in Lithuanian Records Deena Berton Sunday, May 23, 2010 1:30 PM Temple Emanuel, Newton, MA Deena Berton has traveled extensively in Lithuania and has assisted in acquiring data from local archives. She will describe the many records that exist in Lithuania for genealogical research and how you can access them. The talk will include information about LitvakSIG—the special interest group for Lithuanian research—and a tour of its new website Ms.
Berton is on the Board of Directors of LitvakSIG, the
primary internet resource for Lithuanian-Jewish research. Its mission
is to
preserve Litvak heritage by discovering, collecting, documenting, and
disseminating information about the once vibrant Jewish community of
Lithuania
before its destruction in the Holocaust. In addition to independent
Lithuania
(1919‑1940), this area includes the larger Lithuania from the Russian
Empire
period (1795‑1919) and a number of shtetls now in Belarus and Poland.
