Finding Your Ancestors
in Lithuanian Records

Deena Berton

Sunday, May 23, 2010
1:30 PM
Temple Emanuel, Newton, MA

Deena Berton has traveled extensively in Lithuania and has assisted in acquiring data from local archives. She will describe the many records that exist in Lithuania for genealogical research and how you can access them. The talk will include information about LitvakSIG—the special interest group for Lithuanian research—and a tour of its new website

Ms. Berton is on the Board of Directors of LitvakSIG, the primary internet resource for Lithuanian-Jewish research. Its mission is to preserve Litvak heritage by discovering, collecting, documenting, and disseminating information about the once vibrant Jewish community of Lithuania before its destruction in the Holocaust. In addition to independent Lithuania (1919‑1940), this area includes the larger Lithuania from the Russian Empire period (1795‑1919) and a number of shtetls now in Belarus and Poland.
