Jacob's Cane:
Tracing Five Generations

Elisa New

Sunday, June 13, 2010
1:30 PM
Temple Emanuel, Newton, MA

Elisa New will trace the journeys of family members from Eastern Europe over five generations as she unravels the mysterious etchings on her great-grandfather's ornately carved cane. In her journey to discover the origins of her precious family heirloom, she traveled from Baltimore to the Baltic to London to tell the story of the family's migration. The talk will include a discussion of the tools she used in her research.

Elisa New is a professor of English at Harvard. Her quest to uncover her family history is described in her new book Jacob's Cane: A Jewish Family's Journey from the Four Lands of Lithuania to the Ports of London and Baltimore; A Memoir in Five Generations.

This event will include a very short annual meeting of the Society to elect a new slate of officers and board members.

A flyer in Adobe PDF format is available from our website at flyer.jgsgb.org. We encourage you to print it out and post copies in places where you think it would attract attendees, such as synagogues, community centers, supermarkets, etc.
