Every year, the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts (SCM) sponsors a tour related to Jewish Boston and led by Ellen Smith, who has been a speaker at JGSGB programs. For the past few years, the tours have conflicted with our own programs, so we have not publicized them. This year there is no conflict, and the tour may be of interest to many people on this email list. Note that advance registration on the SCM website is required. For more information and to register, go to www.synagoguecouncil.org/bus_tour_2011.htm (click on the link, or, if you type it in, note that what appear to be spaces are actually underscore characters). We have included the text of the announcement on the SCM website below.

The Adams Street Shul celebrates its 100th anniversary by joining the Synagogue Council's bus tour of historic Jewish Boston. This year's tour entitled "Boston's Immigrant Synagogue Trail", will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 12:30-6:15 pm, and focuses on Boston's immigrant synagogues.

We plan to visit present and former Jewish congregations in Roxbury, Boston and suburbia, spanning a century of Jewish immigration. The group meets at Temple Reyim in Newton at 12:15 and leaves promptly at 12:30 -- rain or shine. Advance reservations required.

"Boston's Immigrant Synagogue Trail" will be led by Ellen Smith, Director of the Hornstein Program in Jewish Professional Leadership at Brandeis University, scholar, curator and author. Ellen is co-editor and author of "The Jews of Boston", the curator of three award-winning exhibitions on Jewish Boston, and the ever-popular tour leader of SCM's bus tours for the past six years.

Cost: $36 per person
