Jan Meisels Allen, IAJGS Vice President and chairperson of the IAJGS Public Records Access Monitoring Committee, sent this to the IAJGS Leadership Forum on September 30. "ProQuest has added to their Historical Newspapers Collection three American Jewish Newspapers: The Jewish Advocate (Boston-based weekly-the oldest-continuously-circulating Jewish newspaper in America), The American Hebrew & Jewish Messenger (from 1857) and later this year they will add The Jewish Exponent (1887-1990) and the Jerusalem Post (1932-1988) as an International complement. ProQuest Historical Newspapers Collection are subscription-based through libraries. Libraries may chose which newspapers they subscribe to from the collection. If you are interested in having these newspapers available at your library you need to make your interest known." Please use the contact button on the Boston Public Library's website and urge them to add the Boston Jewish Advocate to their list of available ProQuest Massachusetts Newsstand papers. This should then provide searchable, online access from home to the full 100+ years of Advocate historical issues. Here are steps for submitting your request. Go to the following web page: http://www.bpl.org/electronic/newspaper.asp Click on the "contact us" link at the right-hand end of the brownish-orange bar of links near the top of the page. Then click on "General Questions" under the "Email Us" section. Fill in the form with your request that the library add The Jewish Advocate to their ProQuest Massachusetts Newsstand offerings. Then click on the "Proceed" button. On the next screen, fill in your name and email address and click the "Submit" button. That's it!
