Title: Efforts to Close SSDI
More on Efforts to Close Access to SSDI
|
As we wrote earlier (March 7), efforts continue in Congress to
close off public access to the Social Security Death Index, a very
important tool for genealogists.
The
Massachusetts Genealogical
Council (MGC),
our state's umbrella organization for genealogical and historical
organizations, is front-and-center in the fight to keep access to
the SSDI (and other public records) available. You can read more
about the issue in the
MGC Sentinel.
In particular, at 10:00 AM Eastern time on Tuesday, March 20, the
Senate?s subcommittee on Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Growth
is holding a hearing entitled "Tax Fraud by Identity Theft,
Part 2: Status, Progress, and Potential Solutions." The
MGC Sentinel
has instructions for how you can listen to that hearing
online, as well as more information about the various House
and Senate bills.
