The PBS genealogy series Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates
Jr. is now in its second season. This Sunday's episode features
Barbara Walters and her Polish-Jewish ancestry. The research was carried
out by long-time JGSGB member Jim Yarin, who appears on the show.
We invite you to come an hour before the TV show starts to hear Jim
Yarin describe his experience doing the research, after which we will
watch the show on a large-screen projection TV.
Join us at 7 PM at NewBridge on the Charles at 5000 Great Meadow Road in
Dedham. You can see a flyer for the event by clicking

If you cannot join us at NewBridge, you can, of course, watch (or
record) the show on your own TV on April 1st at 8 pm on the PBS channel.
Directions
If you use a GPS, enter "45 West Street, Dedham", as your
destination (West Street is part of Route 135). That is the address of
the entrance to the NewBridge complex (162 acres). Great Meadow
Road is inside the complex and still too new to be on most GPSs.
From Route 95/128 Southbound
Take EXIT 17 (Route 135 east), marked "Needham/Natick" (no
mention of Dedham !!).
At the end of the exit ramp, take a RIGHT onto Route 135 east (West
Street), heading toward DEDHAM Square. Pass through one set of lights
almost immediately and go under the two overpass bridges where Route 128
runs overhead.
Then you will see TWO MORE traffic lights ahead. The first one would
take you back onto Route 128. Ignore it, and continue to the second
traffic light, which is very close after the first. There is a left hand
lane and a left arrow for the LEFT turn. This is the entrance to
NewBridge and Rashi School. The sign is on a small wall and a little hard
to read. The traffic light is the key.
Once you enter the NewBridge property, keep going to the end of the
road (over 2 traffic bumps), about 0.5 miles, to a STOP sign. You will
see the Rashi School on your left. Turn RIGHT and follow the signs around
to the "Community Center" (SECOND LEFT). The Shapiro Community
Center Building is at 5000 Great Meadow Road, and the parking lot for it
is " P2". Hopefully you can find a spot to park. If all are
filled, feel free to park along the roadway.
When you come into the main building, turn left, then immediately
right to go downstairs (or take elevator). When you get down the stairs,
turn right and then left down the corridor to Great Meadow Hall.
From Route 95/128 Northbound
Take Route 95/128 northbound to EXIT 17 (Route 135 east), marked
"Needham/Natick" (no mention of Dedham). At the end of the exit
ramp, there is a light. Take a LEFT at the light onto Route 135 east
(West Street), heading toward Dedham Square. Only a few hundred yards
further is another traffic light, which is the entrance to the NewBridge
complex. There is a left hand lane and a left arrow for the LEFT turn.
This is the entrance to NewBridge and Rashi School.
Once you enter the complex, follow the last two paragraphs of the
southbound directions above.
