Collaborative Genealogy:

A Revolutionary New Approach
to Building Our Family Trees

Sunday, January 11, 2015         1:30 - 3:30 pm

Congregation Beth El-Atereth Israel, Newton, MA

Collaborative genealogy is a process in which many researchers contribute to a common, extended family tree. Adam Brown will describe the ways in which Internet sites and social networking have already begun to bridge the gap between the collaborative trees, the family-specific trees, and the large record and DNA databases hosted by organizations such as JewishGen. By taking advantage of these exciting new developments, opportunities for making breakthroughs in building our family trees will increase exponentially. A panel discussion on collaborative genealogy with Adam Brown and JGSGB members Jay Sage and Meredith Hoffman will follow the lecture.

Adam Brown has researched his family’s Ashkenazi and Sephardi origins for over three decades. He is the founder and  coordinator of a genealogical database at FamilyTreeDNA.com with more than 2,300 participants and is a curator of the Geni/MyHeritage World Family Tree.  He is the author of two articles in Avotaynu: “The Coming Big Bang in Genealogical Research: Automated Matching of Databases and Family Trees” (Summer 2013)  and “Interactive Web Site Brings Our Family Tree to Life”  (Fall 2009).
