Finding Family History in Probate Records

Allan Jordan

Sunday, March 15, 2015     1:30 pm

at Congregation Beth El-Atereth Israel, Newton, MA

Probate court records, which cover wills and estates of deceased persons, are an often overlooked genealogical resource. But they are rich with information and can provide routes around research roadblocks.

Allan Jordan will describe what a probate file is; show how to determine if someone was likely to have a probate record and how to go about finding the record; and demonstrate what you may find searching in a probate record.

Jordan will show how to get started finding your family files and illustrate some of the ins and outs of searching for wills and estates, using examples of typical records and the “unique finds” he has located in his quest through the courts.

Allan Jordan applied his research skills as a historian to become what he likes to call a “professional amateur” genealogist. He has followed his family from Courland and Ukraine to the United States, Scotland, South Africa, Australia and Israel. He enjoys helping people with research in the New York area.
