Foundations of Jewish Genealogical Research

Mondays 7?9 pm, starting January 30, 2012

For a fifth year, the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston (JGSGB) and Hebrew College will be offering the award-winning " Foundations of Jewish Genealogical Research," an intensive 8-session course to provide serious adult students with the tools to research their family origins.

In August 2009, the JGSGB received the Outstanding Program Award from the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies for creating and teaching this comprehensive course that "moves students from the basics to finding ancestral records in Europe."

The course will cover:

• Getting Started on Family History Research: Basic Steps, Strategy, and Skills
• Technical Tools and Online Resources for Genealogy
• History of Jewish Migration, the Diaspora, and Changing National Borders
• Identifying Your Immigrant Ancestors: Methods and Resources for Researching Family Members in the US
• Finding Your Ancestors in European Records and Learning about Their Lives
• Identifying Holocaust Victims and Survivors
• Finding Family Members Living in Israel
• Social Media for the Jewish Genealogist
• Using Your Research: Making Connections and Sharing Your Findings

There will be individual help time and a hands-on introduction to Internet research.
Registration is limited to 24 students. Tuition is $250 payable to Hebrew College.
Students are expected to have basic computer skills.
