Dr. Lyudmila Sholokhova will speak on the history of the
YIVO Institute for Jewish
Research
and describe the resources at YIVO that are available for Jewish
genealogical research. These resources include the archives of the
major Russian Jewish historian Simon Dubnow and the online YIVO
Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe.
Lyudmila Sholokhova is a head librarian at the YIVO Institute for
Jewish Research in New York. She specializes in collection
development, cataloguing, academic research, and publications in
East European Jewish Studies. She has extensive work experience as a
librarian in the U.S. and in Ukrainian academic institutions. Fluent
in Yiddish, English, Russian (her mother tongue), and Ukrainian, she
has proficiency as well in French, German, Hebrew, Belorussian,
Polish, Czech, and Slovak languages. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, she
moved to the United States in 2001.
Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members.
