Kahlile Mehr will review the best sources for Jewish genealogical research in eastern Europe and options for acquiring documents from those sources. Learn how to identify and use archival collections, understand the arrangement of records in an archive, and use the Internet to do research.
Kahlile B. Mehr is Manager of Slavic Collection
Management and Cataloging at the LDS Family History Library in Salt
Lake City. Mehr has over thirty years experience at the FHL, where he
has developed the FHL collections for eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal,
and the Pacific and has visited archives in most of the countries of eastern Europe. He has published many articles on family history
topics and is a regular contributor to Avotaynu, reporting on
the FHL's acquisitions of Jewish records from eastern Europe. Mehr serves on the boards of the International Association of Jewish
Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) and the Federation of East European Family
History Societies (FEEFHS).
Admission is free for members, $5 for guests.
