Two Talks: Ukrainian Research
and Online Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Janette Silverman

Sunday, April 3, 2016    1:30 pm
Temple Emanuel, Newton

Our speaker will make two presentations – a lecture on Ukrainian research, followed by a shorter spotlight talk about online Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

Finding records about our Ukrainian ancestors presents special challenges and obstacles, including the recent political situation in Ukraine. Janette Silverman will draw on her travels to Ukraine, research in several Ukrainian archives, and experience with other Ukrainian resources to show us how to navigate this difficult terrain. She will also present several ways of doing Ukrainian research in the United States.

In a second talk, Silverman will show why the online international SIGs are an important resource to researchers. She’ll describe their role in finding new sources of genealogical documents, their role in indexing, translating, and digitally publishing them in online databases, and how (and why) we should all be involved.

Finally, Silverman will join our local Ukraine SIG for a focused question and answer session that will be open to all attendees.
